The apex council of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has almost agreed that the Indian Premier League (IPL) should be held in September in the event of a postponement of the proposed T20 World Cup in Australia in October- November this year. To be made in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). However, the official decision on this will be taken after the final decision of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on the IPL Governing Council T20 Cricket Cup.
The BCCI Apex Council’s meeting on Monday through video conferencing lasted for nearly four hours and the 11-point agenda was discussed. However, it is surprising that the apex council cannot take any decision on any issue including IPL, domestic cricket program, future tour schedule, and Bihar cricket. In this, everyone agreed that due to Corona there could be no IPL in April-May, IPL should be in UAE in September-November. However, no official decision could be taken on this.
The ICC has already held a meeting on the decision to postpone the T20 World Cup but has not taken a final decision which also annoys the BCCI and it seems that the international body is intentionally hanging it. According to the ICC, she wants to take the right decision at the right time. A warning of the second wave of coronavirus has been issued in Australia. Cricket Australia chairman Earl Eddings said in June that it is imaginary to think about the preparations for the T20 World Cup this year. Eddings suspects that hosting a 16 team in an epidemic period would not be right. On the other hand, international cricket has returned from the Test series which started in England between England and the Caribbean team.
In 2014, BCCI conducted half of the IPL season in the United Arab Emirates. Most of the countries including India have good connectivity with the UAE so that players and support staff from other countries including India can reach it easily. The quarantine time in UAE is shorter than in other countries. Whether it is about medical facilities or previous experience of IPL, all things go in favor of the UAE.
The BCCI has said that it will organize a conditioning camp only for the players coming under the agreement. The names of Dharamshala and Ahmedabad were discussed for this in the apex council. However, no final decision was taken on this. With the cricketers not being able to visit the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore, the camp is almost scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad or Dharamshala.
