Six killed, 17 injured in explosion at NLC India power plant in Tamil Nadu

Six people were killed instantly and 17 injured in an explosion at a thermal power plant in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday morning.

A massive explosion in a boiler at Stage-2 of the central government-owned NLC India Limited (formerly known as Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited) occurred about 180 km from Chennai.

The injured persons have been taken to NLC Lignite Hospital.

Firemen are trying to extinguish the fire. Rescue teams from the Cuddalore district administration have also reached the spot to assess the situation.

The cause of the explosion in tamil nadu is not yet known.

Further details of the event are awaited.

This is the second explosion in a power plant in two months.

In May, eight employees were injured after an explosion in a boiler at a power plant of NLC India Limited.

The power stations of the integrated mining-cum-power generation company are located at Neyveli in Cuddalore.
