Australia’s women’s cricket team’s star all-rounder Ellyse Perry and Wallabies player Matt Tomua have confirmed their separation.
In December 2015, the famous pair tied the knot, as Tomua’s rugby union career took them to Europe.
Last year, Ellyse Perry moved from his home state of New South Wales to Victoria, swapping teams in the Women’s National League when Matt Toomua joined the Melbourne Rebels last year.
To split the mutual decision between Perry and Toomua
“Earlier this year we paid the greatest respect to each other,” a joint statement published by the Sydney Morning Herald said.
“We felt that this is the right course of action and is in the best interest of each other and our present life.
“It is something that has developed and is a mutual decision.
“Throughout our relationship, we remain private and we ask that our space and privacy be respected during this difficult time for both of us.”
Although the news of their divorce is shocking, rumors of their separation had been going on since February this year. It was speculated that the pair is having trouble in their paradise after Perry was spotted without her wedding ring at the Australian Cricket Awards in Melbourne.
Professionally, both Ellyse Perry and Matt Toomua are doing well in their respective careers. Matt was in action on Friday night as he played a key role in the club’s 29–10 win against the NSW Varahats at the SCG.
Perry, on the other hand, has been instrumental in Australia’s women’s cricket team’s victory over the years. He last played during the ICC T20 World Cup in February-March of this year, where he missed the summit clash against India due to injury.
